Chinatown is a long-time home to Chinese immigrants, and while
remaining a huge Asian gathering place, it is booming with a recent
non-immigrant population.
The area encompasses Canal to Worth Streets, Bowery to Church Street
and literally spills into its neighbor, Little Italy. Rich with history
dating back to the late 19th Century, Chinatown is inescapably
delightful and occasionally overwhelming, packed with restaurants, tiny
shops, and bargains galore.
Predominantly brownstones and five-story buildings, Little Italy
runs north of Canal, from Mott to Mulberry, Bowery to Lafayette. Still rich
in Italian culture, this area remains one of the most ethnic regions of NYC
and is filled with wonderful cafes, décor and festivity. Though a bit less
residential than its neighbor, Chinatown, Little Italy is also one of the
recent hotspots for young creatives looking for a conveniently located area
to call home.
